Two New Case Studies Link Leadership Development and Organizational Culture

One of the unique benefits of the Denison model is that it applies to both the organizational and the individual leader level. The common model allows you to align your organizational culture and leadership development initiatives using a common framework, language and behavior. Our new case studies provide great examples of how two organizations used the Denison model to attain their performance improvement goals in terms of both organizational culture and leadership development.
In “Top-Down & Bottom-Up: Leadership & Culture Transformation at SERS,” the School Employees Retirement System of Ohio which manages over $9 Billion in assets for their 185,000 members used the Denison Solutions to transform their organization. Their key goal was to balance their formerly very top-down approach to management with bottom-up involvement from the rest of the organization. Using the Denison Leadership Development Survey, the executive team embarked on a development journey that had far reaching implications for how the rest of the organization interacted and got work done. Focusing on cross-functional teams, open communication and staff development were steps the organization took to balance out the formerly heavy top-down management approach. In “Culture & Leadership Development Aligning Strategy & People” a global manufacturer was caught in short-term thinking which meant they would not be sustainable for the long term. Using the Denison Organizational Culture Survey, they identified Capability Development as a key opportunity of focus. They created a Leadership Development program based on the Denison Leadership Development Survey that allowed them to align their individual development initiatives to their overall strategy planning cycle for the year.
